Gymtimidation and how to get over it?

So what is Gymtimidation???

It’s people who find the gym and exercise intimidating, more common than you think with males and females.

Now I get it.

Even for me who has some of the best S&C qualifications you can get.

Who coaches people every day (well except Saturday afternoons and Sundays)

I still get it every time I walk into a packed commercial gym.

That awkward feeling everyone is staring at you, but heres the thing.

In reality nobody cares everyones just trying to do their best.

It’s also why some people prefer to train on their own or in a group of people with the same fears.

It’s why weight watchers and slimming world are so popular.

I try to avoid all the BS in the fitness industry, because most of it does my head in.

Body-transformations, 4 week fat blasts, 7 day slim downs, detox blah blah blah

It’s also why celebrity fitness dvd’s are so popular

Mainly women see this celeb who’s gone from fat to thin and they want the same results from the comfort of their own home.

Nobody has to see them train and they get the body they desire or not when it ends up gathering dust.

One of my squash player’s said they even made them do a celebrity DVD at school for a PE session

Now I’m all for teenagers exercising but I can’t help but think sticking on the latest Geordie shore fitness DVD is not the way to go about it.

Where’s the PE education and coaching to educate these girls.

I know coaching teenagers can be difficult, but celebrity dvd’s is NOT the answer.

It annoyed me to be honest.

What puts you off going to the gym?

It should be a positive experience for you, but for many it’s not.

like I said it’s both men and women who can suffer from it.

It’s why some people sometimes choose to train 1-2-1 and hire a trainer.
