What Exercises You Should be doing in the gym!

There’s many ways to skin a cat

Not sure which sick person came up with that saying

But anyways back to what you should be doing in the gym

Firstly keep it simple

Think more in terms of movement than specific exercises.

If it feels and looks wrong it’s probably doing more harm than good.

Technique first my friend.

So what do you need to be doing in a session?

  1. Squat – start with bodyweight and progress
  2. Push – Start with a good quality press up before you get flattened on the bench press
  3. Pull – some sort of rowing movement with a straight back, if your back resembles a question mark that it’s no good for you.
  4. Lunge – forwards, backwards and sideways
  5. Brace – Forget doing 1000’s of sit ups there’s better and more fun ways to train the core

If you do the above 3 times a weeks it’s a good start.

No need to over complicate the situation

Basics work and more importantly get results!

We can talk reps and sets another day.

Try and avoid the funny looking machines.

Your body is designed to move freely not sit on a machine and bash out chest presses.

A quick little re cap

You need to be squatting, pushing, pulling, lunging and bracing during a session at least 3 times/week.

Mix in some low intensity walking

The odd run

and if you’re feeling brave enough

Find a hill and run to the top.

Can’t neglect the heart and lungs!
